Brady Poppinga's Faith

If you truly want to understand Brady Poppinga, you need to know a bit more about him off the field. And in particular, you should understand his Mormon faith. Now, I'm no Mormon expert, but I've compiled a bit of information between his comments and online faith resources.

Brady Poppinga
Brady Poppinga attended Brigham Young University, which is named for Brigham Young, the former president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The school emphasizes scripture and a strict honor code. Their mission is to "assist individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life." What an undertaking!

Mormons follow God and Jesus Christ. Their religion was established in the U.S. under the leadership of Joseph Smith. Today estimates are that 13.8 million people in the world adhere to the Mormon faith. Service is also a large part of the Mormon faith and most adherents take two years to help others around the world as part of a service learning goal.

So there you have it! Brady Poppinga's faith in a nutshell! (What a weird figure of speech.)

Brady Poppinga's little Julius Maxiumus

Sometimes when you go to watch a movie, you just don't know what's going to happen. Will you hate it and want to walk out? Will you be enraptured by the graphics and action? Will your favorite actress do a stellar job?

Or will you become such a huge fan of the movie that you name your first son after its main character?

Well, this last scenario happened to our Green Bay Packers linebacker, Brady Poppinga. He absolutely loves movies like Gladiator and 300--burly men challenged to keep physically and morally strong in the face of adversity. Sounds like his own adventures on a mission trip pre-NFL days!

He loved Gladiator so much that he convinced his wife, Brooke, to let the couple name their son Julius Maximus after Russell Crowe's character. Now that's crazy!

Julius Maximus
"Are you not entertained?"

Just makes me wonder if his daughter Jasmine was named for perhaps another of Brady Poppinga's favorite movies:

Aladin
You never know.

Brady Poppinga changing lives and making strides

Brady Poppinga has been with the Green Bay Packers since 2005. Two years into his time with the Packers, Poppinga was awarded the 2007 winner of the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for his contributions to humanitarianism and for his performance with the Packers.

With a huge dedication to charities and organizations directed to improve the community, such as Boy Scouts of America and church activities, Brady Poppinga is a man to look up to. Poppinga has also hosted a football camp for children in his home state of Wyoming as a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital. Brady Poppinga’s list of contributions is quite extensive, and even longer than his list of achievements on the football field.

After graduating Brigham Young College and being drafted by the Packers, dominated the field with skill and speed. Poppinga is no where near finished with his attempts to improve the community and to improve his football skills. Don’t miss out on the next Green Bay Packers’ game to watch Brady and the rest of the Pack in action!

Brady Poppinga's on a mission

Brady Poppinga, Green Bay Packers outside linebacker, may be a hard hitter on Lambeau Field but he's equally a hard-hitter (if that makes sense) in his church community. Brady Poppinga's Mormon faith is a central part of his life, so much so that he even stepped away from family, friends, and football (how's that for alliteration?!) for a two year stint of mission work in Uraguay.

To date, Brady Pop (sounds like a new brand of music or a sweet, bubbly soda!) says that those two years were the most defining part of his life. He became fluent in Spanish and was inspired to continue helping others in need once he readjusted to life in America.

His mission today is to assist the Green Bay Packers to victory and I couldn't be more supportive! After all, I do snatch up my Green Bay Packers tickets and head off to every home game and some away ones as the budget allows. In his spare time, Brady Poppinga lives with his wife and two little ones and, of course, spends lots of time at church. Maybe we'll have a celebrity sighting with this guy sometime soon. Stay tuned!
